Numerical Analysis

Phase-field and ALE simulations of finite-depth dip coating with the Navier–Stokes–Cahn–Hilliard equations.

Numerical analysis of dip coating

  • System of numerical analysis of finite depth dip coating process
    • Prediction of the shape of coated layer varying system parameters.
    • Phase field method — based on an Eulerian description, widely used in deformable domain problems such as pinch-off and coalescence dynamics.
    • ALE method — tracks the position of the mesh nodes in a Lagrangian fashion by integrating the evolution equation.
    • Governing equation — to simulate the pinch-off dynamics, we adopt the NSCH (Navier–Stokes–Cahn–Hilliard) equation.
  • Procedures and results of dip coating process
    • After the initialization of field variables, we wait until the fluid wets the solid surface, then simulate the pulling process by moving mesh.
    • We can simulate the finite depth dip coating process in 2D and 3D cases.
